Up here in the rust belt, also known as New York state, cars get rusty, and one of the rustiest parts is often the exhaust. Over time that typically leads to exhaust falling apart and needing to be repaired or replaced.
Exhaust systems can be expensive, so when parts can just be welded together it can save a lot of money. However, there are some parts you shouldn’t weld together. Flex joints are necessary parts, allowing for the vibrations and stresses to dissipate. Without flex joints eventually weaker parts of the pipe will break, so a fix like this may not work out in the long run.
