About

My name is Dan.

I’m a young mechanic at a Honda dealership in western New York. I began in 2014, so my knowledge and experience are just getting started, and hopefully this blog will serve to document my growth as a technician.

The primary purpose of this blog is to be a place for me to post about interesting and unusual things I encounter while working on cars. I’m not a writer, so don’t expect a literature masterpiece.

The views and opinions expressed on this blog are my own, and do not represent those of my dealership or Honda.

Be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss anything! Like my Facebook page and follow my Twitter (@Mech_Malarkey) to get links to each post as they come out! Also if you’re interested in more pictures from the shop as I take them, follow my Instagram (@mechanicalmalarkey).

Dan, thanks for the videos on YouTube, specially thread chasing and dies. This is how I found you. I am replacing spark plugs on a 2011 Acura MDX, and one of the threads is not going well. I am thinking I need to chase the plug hole. Any advise, tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve never had to chase spark plug threads myself, and I would imagine it would be tricky down in the deep spark plug tubes of overhead cam engines. The one thing I could say is be careful not to thread a chaser all the way through the hole because I don’t know how you’d get it back out.
