I’ve seen plenty of pictures like this on the internet, but this was the first time I’ve gotten to see it in person. Unfortunately, this wasn’t a car I actually got to work on, just one I saw in the parking lot, but this was the first time I’ve seen brakes so far gone that there’s no brake pad.

I don’t know how long it takes to wear through the backing of a brake pad, which is a little less than a quarter of an inch thick, but I’m sure it has to make some noise and make the brakes not feel good. At this point it needs pads, rotors, and a new caliper.
