Typical tires are designed to last a long time. Typical passenger car all-season tires can usually go for 40,000-60,000 miles if properly maintained. High performance tires are higher grip, which means they wear out much quicker, in possibly 20,000 miles or even less if driven hard.
This Civic Si had regular all-season tires, but in only 20,000 miles the owner managed to wear them down to slicks. When it came into the shop they were on the rear, which means after they were done doing burnouts or whatever they were doing, they rotated their tires to have tread on the front again. I don’t know how long they were like it, but it must’ve been a fun ride in the rain.
