More Good Engineering

A while back I made a post about how Honda CR-V subframes have a hole in them that allows you to easily reach a bolt on the exhaust pipe. I recently encountered another place where maintenance was clearly considered during design.

This is the rear subframe on a Honda Pilot, with an access hole for the drain plug of the rear differential. You could get to it without the hole, but there’s also a fill plug higher up, and that would be hard to reach without the hold provided for it as well. Mechanics give engineers a lot of flak for annoying designs, but here’s another that’s very helpful.
