Watch For Shifted Brake Hardware

If you or someone else recently worked on your brakes, and now you’re hearing this little scraping noise, here’s something to check for.

I’ve seen this a couple times where the pad holder hardware gets shifted over in the caliper bracket to where it is now rubbing against the brake rotor and causing noise when the car is driven. I suspect that this most often happens when the pads are rusty and stuck in the holders and take some force to remove, and they move the hardware as they come out. If you’re replacing the pads you should also be replacing these, but if you’re just removing the pads to clean and relubricate them, that’s when I think this is most likely to happen.
