If I had to guess, I’d say that probably the majority of cars sold in the United States in the last two decades have come under some sort of recall at least once. Recalls usually address safety issues, or sometimes problems that make them fail emissions requirements. Most notably, hundreds of millions of airbags have been recalled in the last several years. It’s always a good idea to get recalls done as soon as you are notified that your vehicle has one.
This was a vehicle owned by someone that waited much longer than they should have. The particular recall was for the wiring to the blower motor. The problem was that it could overheat and melt, potentially causing a fire.
When I got under the dashboard to inspect the wiring, I found exactly the reason why the recall happened. The connector was completely melted and the wiring broken. Luckily, this is all that had happened. This recall was launched ten years ago, and it took until now for the car to finally be brought in for the fix, probably only because the blower stopped working, for obvious reasons. Get your recalls done!
