I was driving my truck last week when I suddenly heard the squeal of my serpentine belt and then didn’t have any power steering. I quickly pulled over and opened the hood to find that my serpentine belt had gotten thrown off the pulleys.
Checking the pulleys I found that the tensioner pulley would not turn at all. I bought a new pulley and when I removed the old one I found what had happened.
When the pulley seized, the belt just started melting or grinding through the plastic pulley until it finally fell off. I don’t know how long the pulley was stuck, if it was just during that 15 minute drive, or if this had been happening for a while.
