Sometimes you have to wonder how a customer either didn’t notice a problem, or didn’t care enough to get it checked out. I’ve worked on many cars with so many indications of major problems, sometimes very unsafe problems, but somehow the owner didn’t know.
I can’t imagine that this didn’t make any noise or make the braking feel different. There is no brake pad at all in one of the rear brake calipers, so it’s just the caliper itself grinding against the rotor. I don’t know if there just somehow wasn’t a pad installed, or more likely the pad was just worn all the way through. How that could happen without being noticed I can’t understand, because metal scraping against metal makes a lot of noise, and the metal backing part of brake pads is about 1/4 inch thick, so that would take a while to wear through.
