I’ve seen a lot of cars with brakes that failed in various ways, so this week I’ll be posting some pictures from my collection. Today I have a couple pictures of drum brakes that failed.
This is one of the shoes from a Toyota Sienna. Something in the mechanisms in the parking brakes must have seized or stuck in some way, causing the middle of this brake shoe to wear against the drum until it wore completely through the friction material and into the metal backing.
What we have here is a failure of adhesive. The friction material completely separated from the metal backing on both shoes on one side. I don’t know if these were cheap ones, just old, or a random fluke.
Come back on Thursday to see pictures of failed disc brakes.
New blog posts every Monday and Thursday, plus pictures throughout the week on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
